.Fender, Gibson, Guild, Martin e Taylor a favore della gestione responsabile delle foreste
In particolare, l'attenzione è focalizzata sul legno di Picea sitchenesis (abete sitka - sitka spruce), particolarmente apprezzato dai produttori di strumenti musicali sia per le sue qualità estetiche, sia (e soprattutto) per le sue proprietà armoniche, che ne fanno un materiale ideale per produrre il cuore stesso di chitarre e pianoforti. Le principali fonti di tale legno sono le foreste pluviali temperate della costa occidentale del Canada e dell'Alaska, attualmente minacciate da forme di gestione non sempre corrette e responsabili. Sebbene l'industria degli strumenti musicali non figuri tra i principali utilizzatori di tale materiale - più spesso destinato all'esportazione per impieghi edilizi in Asia - le cinque case citate hanno deciso di prestare particolare attenzione all'origine del legno impiegato e alle tecniche di gestione forestale adottate. Da qualche mese la coalizione "Music Wood" ha intavolato un confronto con Sealaska, cooperativa di nativi dell'Alaska che raggruppa oltre 17.000 membri e rappresenta il principale gruppo di proprietari forestali dell'intera regione.
Il sitka spruce nelle intenzioni dei promotori della campagna è solamente la prima di numerose specie destinate all'industria musicale e che richiedono, oggi più che mai, un impegno verso una gestione corretta delle risorse forestali. Impegno che la Gibson ha già assunto pienamente, conseguendo nel 1996 la certificazione della propria catena di custodia secondo gli standard FSC. Fender, Guild, Martin e Taylor hanno dichiarato di essere pronte a fare lo stesso, sottolineando l'importanza dei loro sforzi verso una buona gestione delle foreste e riconoscendo il valore della certificazione FSC come strumento di gestione, tutela e valorizzazione delle foreste e del legno.

I modelli 00, 000 e OM: caratterizzati da una cassa poco profonda e con curve di dimensioni simili fra loro, suono poco potente e molto bilanciato fra toni alti, medi e bassi;
I modelli Dreadnought e Jumbo: caratterizzati da una cassa più profonda e una curva posteriore più grande di quella anteriore, suono più potente e caldo con toni bassi particolarmente pronunciati;
Little: cassa piccola e tastiera corta, con un suono acuto e bilanciato.
La Martin produce inoltre modelli della serie "firmata", ossia create insieme ai musicisti, secondo le caratteristiche da loro scelte. Fra queste, le più famose, sono la Eric Clapton, la Paul Simon, la Sting, la Jan Anderson etc.

Some stories demand to be told. Others are simply content on being heard. Heard through music, through lyrics, through a cultural revolution. This is the story of Washburn Guitars. Steeped in the tradition of fine instrument making, Washburn Guitar’s dynamic 120-history began in Chicago in 1883. The original guitar factory was located just blocks away from Maxwell Street.
In the early 1920s, Maxwell Street itself would emerge as the epicenter of a musical movement. Often considered the first entry point for thousands of African-Americans arriving from the Mississippi Delta, Maxwell Street became a hotbed for Delta Blues in its most raw and dramatic form. Newcomers and established musicians alike would listen and jam with one another in an atmosphere void of commercial influence. Once recorded, this powerful, emotional style of music would not only become the dominant form of blues but would radically change the emerging sound of rock and roll.
There, on Maxwell Street, as well as in alleyways, city sidewalks, bars, and honky-tonks around the country, Washburn guitars were embraced as the very embodiment and reflective spirit of the hard-working musicians who played them as well as the employees who designed and crafted them. It is the same spirit that guides Washburn to this day.The history of Washburn Guitars is the history of a wide range of musicians. From blues players who shaped rock ‘n roll to multi-platinum recording artists to emerging guitar virtuosos. It is a history that can be heard and experienced every time you turn on the radio or listen to a live performance. It is a history built by skilled craftsmen and musicians who share one common love–a passion for the guitar.

Mr. Ken Hoover started it all back in 1974. Working in repairs, restoration, and intensive custom work for six years, he developed an awareness that his success depended on making guitar players happy by overcoming poor design & workmanship that he encountered in guitars available at that time. He was determined to do a "better job" than many of his peers.
In 1980, Ken started building Zion Guitars. From day one, Ken made a pledge to himself and his clientele to use every ounce of his ability and experience to make each client a totally satisfied customer. That's an easy thing to say.
